Arkane founder hints at a new action RPG inspired by Dishonored and Fallout.

WolfEye Studios, an indie developer comprised of ex-Arkane Studios veterans, revealed their next upcoming action RPG with a retro sci-fi theme. The new project, as described by Fallout Studio president and co-founder Raphael Colantonio, is expected to resonate with fans of Dishonored and Prey based on early screenshots. The robots and machines depicted in the images have a worn and bulky appearance, reminiscent of Fallout’s Atomic Age style.

Colantonio mentioned in a press release that fans of previous games he worked on, such as Dishonored and Prey, will find familiarity, as well as those who enjoy RPGs in general.

Colantonio and Roby discussed their vision for an upcoming game in interviews. They described it as a mix between Fallout and Dishonored, with more RPG elements. The game will be a first-person action RPG set in an alternate 1900’s America, specifically in the Old West. It will be an immersive sim, allowing players to tackle objectives in different ways. Arkane, known for games like Dishonored and Prey, is working on this new project.

The planned schedule is for 2025.

During this time, you may want to keep an eye out for additional hints and clues on social media. The game was somewhat announced by the studio in March at the Game Developers Conference, showing just a photo of a whiteboard with the phrases “Retro Sci-Fi” and “First Person.” It’s likely that more playful hints will be revealed in the future.

Colantonio and Roby were instrumental in the founding and development of Arkane Studios, with Colantonio serving as creative director for 18 years and working on iconic titles like Dishonored and Prey. Roby worked at the studio for 11 years before moving on to projects at 2K. Arkane Studios’ first game, Weird West, was released in 2022 with a unique art style and immersive sim elements.

WolfEye consists of several former Arkane developers, some of whom were recruited after Microsoft closed Arkane Austin earlier this year. While this upcoming game won’t be a typical “Arkane” immersive sim, it should satisfy those who were disappointed by the closure of the studio after Redfall’s setback.

New games can be expensive at $70 each, making it difficult to play all of them. Fortunately, Xbox Series X also offers a variety of free-to-play games in its library.

There is crossover in the best free PlayStation 5 games, which means more players to compete or team up with since most are cross-platform games.
