Xbox Game: Taking-Two Interactive executives have expressed reluctance to make their games available on Xbox Game Pass, as stated by their CEO.
CEO Strauss Zelnick told Gamesindustry.biz before the company’s latest financial report that he believes the inclusion of the Call of Duty franchise may temporarily attract players to the service, but will not impact Take-Two’s release schedule.
According to Zenick, offering a new game on a subscription service with a higher price on the same day might attract consumers for a while. Take-Two has chosen to not launch new titles on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus immediately, a strategy they intend to stick to.
In contrast to streaming services, which allow users to watch numerous hours of movies or TV shows each month, Zelnick asserts that subscriptions benefit older titles more than they do players. The company, however, will follow the preferences of the players, he says.
In 2020, Take-Two President Karl Slatoff expressed doubt about subscriptions becoming the dominant form of distributing interactive entertainment. The company’s current financial report shows moderate growth in net bookings and revenue, thanks to titles like NBA 2K24 and mobile games. Their consistent success with Grand Theft Auto 5, GTA Online, and Red Dead Redemption 2 has spanned several years. In preparation for the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in fall 2025, Take-Two is currently focusing on smaller releases. These include upcoming titles such as NBA 2K25, WWE 2K25, Civilization 7, Judas, and Tales from the Shire.
Game Pass subscribers will be able to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on Wednesday, July 24, instead of waiting for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Prior to the official confirmation on Xbox Wire, the announcement had been heavily anticipated and had been circulating among sources such as Insider Gaming. According to Xbox, the game will be accessible through Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate (including previous tiers before the upcoming price increase), with a variety of game modes available including single-player and the expansive Zombies mode. It appears, however, that Warzone – the free-to-play battle royale version of the series – will not be included in this release.

This week has been an excellent one for new Xbox Game Pass games in 2024. Despite the recent price increase, the Xbox Game Pass catalog has been filled with a number of stand-out releases since launch. Three new games are recommended this week, each offering a unique and enjoyable gameplay experience.
The first game released by Capcom combines action and tower defense with a unique aesthetic. It offers compelling gameplay and a story about the impact of tourism on a small town in a thought-provoking action-adventure game developed by Microbird Games and Curve Games. In addition, Hollow Ponds and Annapurna Interactive offer their latest title to satisfy those who are seeking relaxation.
The Xbox Game Pass has upcoming additions throughout July, such as indies, action RPGs, and genre mash-ups.
The top of the list is an indie game called Flock that combines birdwatching with flying on a giant bird. It’s available now, and section editor Giovanni Colantonio described it as a “pleasant expedition to a colorful world that might help you better appreciate your own.”
